As a redshirt freshman he helped lead NDSU to a FCS national title, contributing in 14 games (9 reception and 165 yards)

In 2019, Watson was second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference, leading the eventual national champs with 34 receptions for 732 yards while scoring 6 TDs

In 2020, he was a first-team All-MVFC selection as a receiver, playing in 10 games with 8 starts between the team's lone game in the fall and it's 2021 spring schedule, with 19 receptions for 442 yards and 1 TD

In 2021, Watson was voted second-team AP FCS All-American with 43 receptions for 801 yards and 7 TDs
